Helping with the basics.
We have included on this page some information that we hope you will find useful. We are updating our site all the time and so will have plenty more for you very soon.
To give your child all the tools they need to tolerate their treatment really well you need to start of with the basics, which we will help you with as much as possible.
As parents we all try to feed our children what we believe is 'good' food, but when our children are fighting a serious illness they need to have the very best.
Some foods feed cancers while other foods fight cancers.
Learning what is better and what is best can be a bit of a mine field, but we will provide you with enough information and support so that you can make educated decisions about your childs diet.
Excellent nutrition is the cornerstone of any successful treatment programme and is something that as a parent you have complete control over.
However it is no use telling your child;
"You know all those burgers, fish fingers and pizza you used to love so much? No more i'm afraid, from now on its just brocoli and fruit juice!"
The trick is to cook all those foods your child loves, but learn to cook them from scratch using ingredients that are healthful, not harmful.
We have a number of whole food recipes for some favourite dishes, including Pizza, Cheesy Vegetable Pie, Burgers, Tomato Ketchup and Crispy Chicken to name just a few. If you would like a free copy please click here.
Of course all this requires much more kitchen time, which can be difficult when running between hospital and home, looking after the children and the 101 other things that all parents need to do.
To make this all important time KICT will help with the the cost of a home help a few hours a day or week. Please get in touch if you think this would help you make more time to prepare those nutritious meals.
If you would like the support of our fully qualified nutritionists to help you make some of these important changes please fill out the weekly diet sheet on the link below and send it in to us by post or email. One of our staff will get back in touch with you as soon as it is received.
